Google review removal guide

How to remove a negative Google review that breaks policy

A low rating is not grounds for removal. Learn which reviews Google may remove, how to report one, and how to request a manual policy check from RepBot.

Request a policy check

RepBot does not decide or guarantee removal.

The deciding rule

Google removes policy violations, not ordinary criticism.

Google says a business may report any review, but only reviews that violate its policies are eligible for removal. Disagreement with a customer or an unfavorable opinion is not enough.

Read Google's Business Profile reporting guidance and prohibited content policy before filing a report.

Examples

What may qualify, and what usually does not

These are illustrations, not decisions about a particular review. Google assesses the content and context.

Potential policy issues

  • A review posted in exchange for payment or a discount.
  • A review from someone who did not have a genuine experience with the business.
  • A competitor or employee posting a review with a conflict of interest.
  • Threats, harassment, or exposed private information.

See Google's full policy and exceptions.

Usually not enough

  • A one-star rating with no written explanation.
  • A genuine customer's complaint about price, wait time, or service.
  • A review you believe is unfair but cannot connect to a policy rule.
  • A factual dispute between a business and its customer.

Google advises against reporting a review solely because you dislike or disagree with it.

Steps to request removal

  1. Identify the rule

Compare the review with Google's content policy. Keep the review URL and relevant evidence.

  2. Report in your Business Profile

Open Read reviews, choose Report beside the review, select a reason, and send the report.

  3. Check status and appeal if eligible

Use Google's Reviews Management Tool. Google's guidance describes a one-time appeal if no violation is found.

Read Google's current reporting and appeal instructions.
